Keeping Kids Entertained
Bring along a small toy or fidget to keep the kids entertained in the car. Rotating a few toys will keep them busy for longer. We also occasionally stop at gas stations to pick up new toys or fidgets.
When planning your trip, factor in gift shops for small toys or trinkets. A little surprise can go a long way in keeping kids cooperative on long drives.
Play kid-friendly music or stories to entertain them. On our last two trips, we had "Inkredible Kids" on a loop.
Make sure to leave after a filling breakfast, and be well-stocked with snacks and fruit to prevent the munchies.
Talk to your kids about the next destination—discuss what you’ll be seeing and what to expect. You can turn it into an educational experience, discussing the science and history of what you pass by during your trip.
Encourage your kids to keep a journal of what they did and saw each day. This is a great way for them to remember their trip. They can fill it out during the drive.

Keep a laminated map taped to the back of the seat in front of them or to the ceiling above their seat, so they can color in each area as you pass through. For more artistic children, have them draw the attraction you stopped at in the area. For example, a waterfall, mountain, or horse.
Play road trip games like "I Spy," "Guess Who," or "20 Questions."
Lastly, try to find playgrounds where the kids can stretch their legs during longer drives.
