Letchworth State Park

Basics: There is a $10 fee to enter the park during peak season (May–October).

Expect poor cell reception throughout the park. Be sure to download maps before arriving.

Minyan: Rochester offers multiple minyanim at various shuls and Chabad houses, including Chabad on Campus. Choose the one that best fits your schedule, and check the shul or Chabad’s timetable for the most up-to-date minyan information.

If you'd like to catch a minyan while driving to or from the park, you can stop in Binghamton, NY. We drove the first leg of our trip, spent the night in Binghamton, and continued our journey from there after Shacharis.

Kosher Food: Rochester has a kosher supermarket—Lipman’s Kosher Market, along with multiple stores carrying kosher products, such as Wegmans, Tops, Whole Foods, and Trader Joe’s.

Additionally, Chabad operates Gavi’s Pizza, open on Thursday nights. Other kosher food establishments include:

  • Loaded Latke at R.I.T.

  • Kosher Station @ Douglass Dining Center at the University of Rochester

  • Malek’s Kosher Bakery

For Shabbos takeout, orders can be placed at Lipman’s Market.

Weather: The weather in Letchworth is typically cooler than in NYC. Even in summer, evenings can be cool, so it’s a good idea to bring a sweater.

Hotels & Attractions: There are no hotels inside Letchworth State Park. While there are campgrounds, we personally preferred the comfort of an Airbnb near Rochester, as it provided running water and modern amenities.

If you’re visiting Letchworth during the summer months, especially on a weekend, we strongly recommend booking attractions in advance, as it can get quite busy in July and August.
