Virginia Beach

Basics: Most travelers arrive by car, and having one helps explore areas beyond the boardwalk. While street parking can be limited during the summer months, there are plenty of municipal garages and paid lots close to the beach. For local transportation, the seasonal VB Wave Trolley is an easy and affordable way to get around the oceanfront area.

The beaches are free and open to the public, with lifeguards on duty at popular sections during the summer. Umbrella and chair rentals are available, and you’re welcome to bring coolers; just note that alcohol and glass bottles are not permitted.

If you're planning to visit First Landing State Park or Back Bay, keep in mind that these nature areas do not have food vendors, so be sure to pack snacks and plenty of water.

Minyan: B’nai Israel Congregation offers year-round minyanim and is the main hub for Orthodox services in the area. Additionally, Chabad of Virginia Beach may host minyanim during busy tourist seasons to accommodate both visitors and the local Jewish community. It’s a good idea to call ahead to confirm minyan times during your stay.

Kosher Food:

There are no dedicated kosher grocery stores in Virginia Beach, but several supermarkets carry kosher items or have a kosher section:

  • Food Lion (only at this location)
1615 General Booth Blvd, Virginia Beach, VA 23454

  • Wegmans
4721 Virginia Beach Blvd, Virginia Beach, VA 23462

  • Trader Joe’s (ask staff for a list of kosher products)
503 Hilltop Plaza, Virginia Beach, VA 23454

For kosher dining, Charlie’s Kosher Deli offers a Mediterranean-style meat grill menu.

If you prefer meals delivered, there are kosher catering options that may deliver to the beachfront area:

  • Meredith:  757-561-7512

  • Cater 613:  757-685-9878

Weather: Virginia Beach has a warm, humid climate in summer and mild winters, making it a year-round destination. Pack sunscreen, hats, and light clothing for daytime, along with a light sweater or jacket for cooler evenings by the water.

Hotels & Attractions: It’s best to book hotels or rentals in advance, especially during summer or holiday weekends. While last-minute options are often available, securing accommodations early will give you the best selection.

Most attractions don’t require advance booking, but many, such as the Virginia Aquarium, Ocean Breeze Waterpark, and The Adventure Park, offer discounts when tickets are purchased online ahead of time.
